2018-2019 PTA Board Recruiting

Dear Montlake Families,

The PTA Board is recruiting for the 2018-2019 school year, and we would love to have you on board! Being a part of the PTA Board is an amazing way to get involved with the school, to learn, and to make a difference in our great community.  All board positions are asked to attend monthly PTA board meetings and to vote on all PTA matters.. Volunteer positions are not required to attend PTA meetings.

Each PTA board position must be elected annually, and the elections will take place on May 3rd.  Below is a list of all available positions. If there is already a candidate for the position, I have noted so in parenthesis.

President (1 candidate)

Vice President  | 5 hours / month

Assists President, runs PTA board meetings when President can’t attend, plans to act as President after serving as VP. Plan 3 general meetings with community events, for example: General PTA / Parent ed night  (October, Feb, May).

Co-Treasurer | 3 hours / month (2 candidates)

Creates and manages the PTA budget, tracks income and expenses, reimburses volunteers and school staff for PTA expenses. 2-year commitment.

Secretary | 1.5 hours/month

Take meeting minutes and distribute to board.

Fundraising chair/Auction Coordinator

Manages, plans, runs the auction. Coordinates with PTA to get needed support: volunteers and communication within the school community.  Assists with annual fund by keeping PTA board up to date on work of volunteer who runs the annual fund.

Outreach chair (2 candidates)

Plan, execute, publicize community events at Montlake & work with VP to plan general PTA meetings: Kindergarten / New family welcome summer activities, Harvest Potluck, Holiday gifts for teachers, March 14 17 minutes of kindness, staff appreciation, party for volunteers, Carnival.

Legislative Advocacy | 2 hours/month (1 candidate)

Educate and motivate members about advocacy and legislation.

Volunteer coordinator | 2 hours/month

Recruit volunteers to help with activities and events both in and out of the classroom.

Communications | 4 hours / month (1 candidate)

Promote all PTA events and activities and for ensuring effective two-way communication between the PTA and school families. Maintain and update PTA website (newsletter blog) and social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter).

Special Ed Liaison

Provides the board with insight into needs of families with children in special education at Montlake.

Building & Leadership Team (2 candidates)

One meeting per month with Montlake staff during work day.

Enrichment coordinator | September / January (One candidate)

Publicize enrichment classes, coordinate online registration, answer parent questions

Annual Fund (two candidates)

Publicity / Communication for annual fund. Manage pizza parties. Thank parents.

Kindergarten welcome team ( 4 people ) | 1-2 hours /month July, August and September

Coordinate/publicize 1 summer family event, 1 parent event during the summer. Assign first grade buddies for summer play date. Welcome families at Harvest Festival in Sept or Oct.

Husky/ Greek festival parking | 1-2 hours Sept – October

coordinating volunteers to monitor the car parking in

our playground during home Husky games (Saturdays in the fall) and during the Greek Festival (a weekend in September).

School tours | 5 hours / year (throughout school year)

Lead prospective parents on school tours (during work hours).

Auction team (3 people) January – March

Help auction chair run the auction.

Auction backroom | March 9, 2019

Manage on-site registration, record the sales, charge credit cards, and make sure all the items go to where they are supposed to go.

Carnival (2 people) |  15 hours April – June

Run carnival in June.
